What does “peace” and “security” mean to you as a woman living in Japan? All over the world, the role that women can play as peacemakers is being increasingly recognised. However, the meaning of “peace’ and “security” is still frequently defined in male terms. This short course will examine the meaning of ‘peace’ and ‘security’ for women in Japan and in different country settings all over the world. Learn practical skills, apply feminist analysis of peace and security, find out about the role of women as peacemakers and combatants in different conflicts world-wide and consider the effect of the remilitarization of Japan and the war against terrorism on women’s security.
