The sixth periodical review of Japan of CEDAW (2009)
The sixth periodical review of Japan’s compliance with the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW)was conducted on July 23, 2009 in New York. AJWRC worked as a member organization of
Japan NGO network for CEDAW (JNNC) on sending alternative reports and lobbying to the Committee members and
the government.

Universal Periodic Review of Japan (2008)
The first review of human rights situations in Japan under the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) was held on May 9
2008 in the second session of the UN Human Rights Council. AJWRC submitted a NGO report on violation of women’s
rights and also jointly submitted two other NGO reports.

The First Review of Japan at the UN Committee Against Torture (2007)
For the two-day period starting from May 9, 2007, the United Nations Committee Against Torture (the “Committee”) held its 38th session and reviewed the initial report of Japan. AJWRC coordinated submission of a NGO report on
violation of women’s rights with support of the World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT), and attended the session
